Dear Premier,

Deletion of Stage 8 of the Proposed Roe Highway

I urge you to proceed immediately with the deletion of the proposed Roe Highway stage 8 and wish to draw your attention to the negative impacts the highway would have on the Beeliar Regional Park, the wetlands of North and Bibra Lakes, and on the social fabric of the surrounding communities.

If the Roe Highway stage 8 remains in the Metropolitan Region Scheme and is to be built, it will destroy the pristine North and Bibra Lake wetlands and surrounding bushlands, and violate major Aboriginal Cultural Heritage sites. It would also sever the communities of Bibra Lake, North Lake and Hamilton Hill and create social dislocation to these established suburbs.

The deletion of Roe Highway stage 8 from the Metropolitan Regional Scheme would protect the environmental, heritage, educational and social amenity of the Beeliar Regional Park, North Lake and associated wetlands and the residential areas of Cockburn.

The EPA has already recommended against the construction of Roe Highway Stage 8 on the grounds that it is not environmentally sustainable.

I therefore request that you commit to the deletion of Roe Highway Stage 8 immediately and that you rezone the land affected by it to parks and recreation as appropriate.

Yours sincerely
